Mission: S0:1: What Is Past, Is Prologue
Location: Various
Timeline: Late 2388

Garrett pulled himself off the floor, his head throbbing as the holodeck dissolved around him. Part one of a very illustrious relationship with the holodeck. He had made it a point to visit it every so often, whenever he got a hint of free time away from the crew; occasionally joined by ensigns and petty officers of different ranks, training them to be able to deal with potential threats that came their way.

Why had he run?

Why hadn't he been the one to stay on the Wayfarer?

Part of him wanted to cry out again, lash out at the unfairness of his demotion whilst the more rational part of his brain told him otherwise. Gaz checked his phaser over before returning to the armory to lock it away without so much of a word to that of the other participants. The crew of the Singularity had warmed up to his personality, as much as they could. Gaz would give them points for trying but he wasn't going to form friendships, not the way that he had before where many had commented on his grumpier nature.

But perhaps today was never a good day.

Not the date that marked a hollowed out Garrett Davies.

It was a part of his history that he never shared, not with anyone. He couldn't. It was a demon he battled on a regular basis, demons which constantly haunted him. Eight years later, his body still found a way to remind him of his loss - not just of his wife but of his daughter being so far away. Flashes of being on the outpost had all but seared themselves into his memory, voices that would grow into a crescendo - screaming at him. They were his own voices.

His doubts, fears and insecurities of failing his family--

"Lieutenant Davies, please report to the Captain's ready room."

Gaz looked at his comm badge, internally scorning it. He took a deep intake of breath as he centered himself, dusting off his uniform and headed straight for the Ready Room. There were a multiple reasons behind the summoning; this time he knew it was nothing to do with getting into a physical altercation with another officer (or ensign for that matter). He walked onto the bridge, much to the stares of the officers and ensigns alike wanting to pry into whatever the Captain had summoned him in for.

The doors slid open, and his Captain was seated.

It gave him a momentary pause.

Enough for his captain to notice, and begin to chuckle, gesturing to the seat opposite his desk. "Lieutenant Davies, you're not in trouble." It was helpful that the Captain was relaxed, though Gaz wasn't quite willing to trust her guise just yet, though he wasn't going to outright refuse a seat.

"Now, I know you haven't quite had the stellar record--" The captain held up a hand to stop anything from interrupting her. "And you haven't been with us long but I can tell you're not comfortable here. I know what you're thinking, but let me stop you there. I've been given a document that I think you should have a look over and tell me what you think."

"Why me?"

"Why not you?" The captain replied, much to his disgruntlement. "I thought you'd be a good fit, as the crew are looking for additions and it would be a better opportunity to learn and get to know more people."

"Or Command just wants a reason to get rid of me."

The Captain shook her head. It was nothing malicious, she would respond, trying to ease whatever concerns the lieutenant had about the potential new career move.

"You're one of the best security/tactical members that we've had for a long time and of course, you've had your ups and downs but I can assure you - this might be for the best."
