S0:1: What Is Past, Is Prologue
Location: various
Crew turn over happened a lot on a ship, meeting up with new folks was one of the things that Dinui enjoyed the most. Seeing that there was a new Chief of Operations she figured introducing herself could not hurt too much. Though she waited a few days to give the new person time to settle in and get their office settled how they preferred.
Dinui rang the chime and waited for permission to enter.
Shurikan actually didn't bother using his office. Offices were confining. Predictable. He didn't know how anyone could expect to think outside of the box when they spent their life in one. In fact, he'd eschewed all the accoutrements of his so-called job since he'd arrived. No uniform, no particular hours. He just did his thing and whatever happened happened. But he did stroll past it from time to time as he meandered around the ship and occasionally found some poor unfortunate soul trying to find the new Chief of Operations.
Syl'ot dirin, how were these people still alive?
Seeing a short redhead hovering outside the door, Shurikan sauntered towards her. "I wouldn't bother, that guy's never in there."
Dinui jumped and spun around and looked up, "Ach, well too bad. Was only wishin' well. An'd maybe see iffen he migh' enjoy a drink in the lounge." She said in a rush still feeling startled. She hadn't heard anyone else in the corridor and hearing the voice out of nowhere from her point of view was worth the jump and near yelp of indignation but she more or less covered it with her words or so she tried.
Shurikan hadn't meant to startle her but when the redhead spun around, he smiled. "He's boring anyway," he told her. "I'm Kan," he introduced himself simply, sticking with a childhood nickname. "I don't know if your people have heart attacks but either way, it'd be a shame if I almost caused one." For her anyway, she hadn't done anything to make him want it to rain tribbles in her quarters. "If you're looking for company, that lounge sounds pretty good."
"Kan, well ye can call me Dinui or Din." She said with a cheeky grin up at him, "No harm done just pride taking a bruising." Dinui paused and laughed softly, "Nay no heart troubles." she regarded him and nodded, "To the lounge then?" she had a feeling someone was playing a trick on her but for the moment it seemed to be harmless enough. If it turned out otherwise well she would retaliate as fitting for the trick.
"Din then," he agreed easily, flashing her a grin as he started heading in what had a fifty-fifty chance of being the right direction. She could correct him if he was wrong. "To the lounge. I hope you didn't have any hijinks in store for that guy, I hear he's a real hard-nosed buzzkill. No sense of humour." His tone was conspiratorial. "So what do you do around here?" he asked though her distinctive given name rang a bell. He'd been reading up on the crew, getting a feel for the place. "Aside from tempting innocent bystanders to join you for a drink."
"Science mostly, games an' such when time allows." she replied with a cheeky grin, "Iffen ye donna want to drink Ah donna mind just talkin' o' can break in the chess o' hal-tol boards." Dinui added as she pointed to the left as they came to the fork in the corridor.
Shurikan's grin was wicked. "Oh, I drink. The question is if you're game. And the two aren't mutually exclusive."
Dinui laughed softly, "Always game."
"Famous last words, isn't that the saying?" Shurikan chuckled.
When they walked through the doorway of the lounge, it was at the point of the day where not full to the brim but not completely empty either. There were four empty tables or a choice of the two empty seats near the viewport side of the bar-top, Dinui looked up at Kan, "Well ye'r the guest where do ye wish to sit?"
Shurikan gave Dinui a cheeky grin and nodded towards the seats by the viewport. Having his back to a wall and being able to see the room always felt a little better to him. He nodded to the bartender and ordered the real stuff. Synthehol just didn't have the same kick. "Pick your poison," he rumbled, gesturing to Din.
Dinui ordered a Locke special which was a spice rum with vanilla beam cream well mixed until it was like a milkshake. The top was sprinkled with peppermint pieces.
The conversation turned more towards banter and then they parted ways on friendly terms though Dinui still had the feeling that Kan, was pulling her leg somehow.
