Mission:
S1:2: Rubicon
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: MD 18 13.15
Vic walked onto the bridge in a bit of a fuss. Not only did his stand in make an ass of himself while he was off ship but now they were letting some lady roam about the ship and they don't even know anything about her. Something felt off and it was tugging at Vic's gut something fierce. He saw that the Captain wasn't in the center seat so he made a path to the ready room and walked in.
"I'm sorry to barge in sir but there is an urgent matter I need to discuss with you. That Daani Black character, something isn't right about her. Us Reynolds' have what we call the Reynolds Sense. If something doesn't feel right it's more than likely rotten as hell. I request that we throw her in cryo stasis or in the very least the brig so that we can get a gauge of her and make sure she isn't out to harm us."
"And you have yet to give me a solid enough reason to have her medically sedated and put back in a cryo casket," Remas said with a laugh. "If I went around throwing people in freezers just 'cause they've threatened me body and a soul, I'd be short a few friends."
Remas stood by the window of his ready room, holding an odd-looking contraption of brass and glass. He waggled it gently at Victor.
"You know how to use a sextant? I don't. I am somewhat of the opinion that when I trade for this 'rare spacefaring antiquity' I was being had for a fool," he muttered and placed it back into the padded book it came in. "But it's got the name Enterprise on it so there's at least the legacy angle. Now, I assume you're dander is up over this whole supposed kidnapping business? Thought I sorted that all out with your deputy?"
"Yeah he's in a bit of hot water with me at the moment but I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet, I think he's avoiding me. Once we're done here I may just have the computer site to site transport him to my office, that'll be funny." Vic said with a chuckle before continuing.
"As for this Daani character, I'm telling you sir something isn't right. Whenever I see her I get the chills and not in a good way. I would like permission to post 2 armed guards on her quarters as well as 2 escorts at all times, we're too far from help if something happens."
"Much in the same way that we are far from where she wants to be," Remas said, walking behind his desk and settling down into the chair. He gestured to the seat across from him. "The way I see it she's already effectively in an open-air prison. We're 8000 light years from Sol, 10000 if you factor in her own homeworld. There is no way that she can return home. What motive would she have to cause trouble? This wouldn't have anything to do with the Federation phobia for the martially inclined now, would it? Just because she didn't grow up in Utopia and fought her way to her current station, don't make her a danger to us."
He clicked his fingers.
"Reckon this is an opportunity."
Vic sat down,"What sort of opportunity sir?"
"When sailors of old, back when both our species were using sails and keels to map the oceans, very often when they sailed off the map there was the assurance of monsters and dragons. We are far and away beyond any map made by Starfleet. Having someone who can complement the skills of Expedition Security, someone raised in a war-torn environment could be seen as an advantage," Remas said slowly, holding up a hand. "I'm not saying put a phaser in her hand and give her an ExpSec baseball cap. But what I am saying is we're not in a position to put aside any resource that could see us succeed."
"You want me to make her a liason for my team?" Vic asked dreading the answer
"No," Remas said before gently tapping his fingers against the table. "At least not yet. For all we know she wants nothing to do with Expedition Security. What I am saying is we need to welcome her to the crew. She never got the training we did, she never specialised in anything. I think we need to give her a chance to find a place to fit in. Which she canny do if she feels like she's a prisoner."
"It's your order so it'll be done sir. But, I do have extreme reservations about this. I have a feeling this is going to bite us in the rear." Vic said, knowing that arguing with the Captain wasn't going to go anywhere.
"I understand where your reservations are coming from Victor, truly I do. But we're not in a position to throw away potential assets to the mission just because they don't fit into the way Starfleet did things," Remas said. "Besides, she knows full well there is nowhere else for her to go out here. She needs us as much as we need her."
He tapped the box which held the ancient sextant.
"Besides, if it all goes sideways you'll have a pristine and never once used 'I told you so' to unwrap."
"I do like a good gloat when I need one." Vic said with a chuckle, "I'll see to it my security teams don't breathe down her neck."
“That’s all I ask,” Remas said, knowing full well if the sword of Damocles fell on Daani’s neck it would fall on his own at the same time. But what was life if there wasn’t a hint of risk to spice it up?
