USS Traveller

Welcome to the USS Traveller!

"I am tormented with an everlasting itch for things remote. I love to sail forbidden seas....”
Herman Meville

By the end of the 24th century, the drive for exploration seems to have died in committee. Starfleet has become a peacekeeping armada, upholding treaties, and mapping space dust down to one part per square meter. For many, it is a way to wear the uniform, the trade on the prestige that too brings.

But for some there is a deeper desire, to see what lies on the far shore and sail beyond it to the next one. For those, a better understanding of known space, and even the shrinking remoteness of the Delta and Gamma Quadrants holds no appeal. For those restless few there is a rallying cry, a point for all who seek to sail strange forbidding seas: a new mission into the unknown.

The Traveller beckons.

Launched across the Galactic Barrier by the Long Jump Project, the USS Traveller and her hand picked crew are the first to explore the Messier 4 globular cluster orbiting above our Galaxy. There they will seek out strange new worlds, and meet new alien civilisations. Boldly going where no one has gone before. With them came a small contingent of colonists seeking a new frontier free of the past mistakes of home.

But beyond the safety of the Galactic Barrier are new threats, and new dangers. Hostile eyes glow like distant campfires from the darkness beyond the light of the Milky Way. Terrors from the dark age of universal history stir in the darkness, awakened to the presence of a new player in their eon spanning game.

The USS Traveller is a ship alone in a strange new world. What wonders they will see cannot be imagined. But their regrets might one day see them wish that they had come so far into the dark…

» The Great Messier 4 Come Back Tour

Posted on Tue Jul 4th, 2023 @ 7:21pm by Captain Remas McDonald in Sim Announcement

So we're making a comeback/soft reboot.

But what does that mean?

Well put simply it means this: a small amount of hand waving. My plan is a simple one, as the overly complicated tend to fall apart without a lot of effort. We're ditching the current mission if any of us can remember it. We're going to be back on the Traveller, with no memory of how we all got there, with a mystery baked in on top of that which will lead us into a bold new plot that has been in the making for a considerable amount of time. #

If you are still out there in the radio land and want in on the crazy, you are welcome to attend. If not, then know you were great and we were lucky to have you.

Whose with me?

Andrew/Sjet

GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS!

So the time has come to cut the rope tying this boat to the pier.

Monday next week, or sometime after that when the laziness inertia is overcome, Utopia Hosting Traveller will be closed down. What does this mean? Not a lot. But any JP's that did not transfer across will be lost, so transfer them across now :)

If you have any thoughts or concerns, give me a shout and we'll sort something out.

Your GM

» Bravo Fleet Survey 2018

Posted on Sun Apr 29th, 2018 @ 10:09pm by Captain Remas McDonald in Sim Announcement

Greeting and Salutations!

It's a little weird writing this, given how we've set up the sim. Yes, we are a part of Bravo Fleet, and quite a happy little vassal if I'm a judge of anything. But once in a while, I am reminded that we are part of not only the Fleet but of Task Force 72: winner of the most direly wanted acronym name 4 years running.

To that end I have been asked, as your sim CO, to ask if you would all take 5 minutes out of your day to fill out this survey: Bravo Fleet Community Survey 2018 .

This is not just make work, but a way for us to have a voice in the direction this player base takes. And whilst a lot of what we see in the survey will not impact us, apart from the idea we could wrap a new fleet around the Traveller, I'm sure I'm not the only one on another sim. So please, take a moment and look at the survey. It's anonymous and confidential, and it's just a way to make sure all our thoughts and opinions are heard.

Thank you for your time.

Andrew Wincott
Space Bard.

PS: Task 72's acronym is Sector Exploration and Necessary Tactical Interdiction Near Enemy Lines (S.E.N.T.I.N.E.L.). I have a feeling Marvel's lawyers will be in contact with us one day about that.

GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS!

Huum, didn't think I was going to go with that greeting every time, but its growing on me. Like a nice single malt. Or black mould. Any hey, time for the monthly pep talk and news bulletin type thingy.

So our very own Lieutenant Tolkath S'chqenr T'Jedf Tolkath (Who has won all the awards by fitting that many letters into a name) actually won Player Of The Month for Task Force 72, of which we are a proud member. Tolkath, buddy, come on up here and receive your giant pile of not much. Mostly bragging rights. Feel free to print this email off and put it on your car as a bumper sticker, give the cops something to ponder when they pull you over for speeding.

I assume this award was given for valiantly protecting the Traveller’s honour in glorious single combat, sure you did us proud.

Now I know things have slowed down a smidge, and by a smidge I mean we’re getting outpaced by an arthritic snail. But I have a cunning plan. A plan so cunning I could put a tail on it and call it a fox. We’re currently wrapping up some smaller JP’s, but will move into a large post where we move towards resolution and escape. There is light folks, it is coming.

You’re GM, DM or CO (The acronyms are mine, all mine! Bwuhahaha)

Andrew/Remas

We have left behind the Milky Way galaxy, and whilst I can hear the groaning of my astronomy lecturers at the phrasing, it's apt. We're now on the wrong side of the Galactic Barrier, and so far no sign that any of the crew have manifested any…
